Court's opinion vs legislative power: SC to hear pleas on selection of CEC

THE Supreme Court on Wednesday said it would hear on February 4 a batch of pleas challenging the appointment of the chief election commissioner (CEC) and election commissioners (ECs) under the 2023 law, which dropped the Chief Justice of India from the selection panel.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant, Dipankar Datta and Ujjal Bhuyan said, "It will be the opinion of the court under Article 141 versus legislative power to enact law. We will hear it on February 4."
