Admissions to Govt Primary Schools Plummet in Shimoga

Many parents opt for private schools to secure English education for their children

Admissions to government schools have declined over the past three years, particularly at the primary level. Many parents are opting for private schools to secure English-medium education for their children, as the district has only a few government-run English-medium primary schools.

According to data obtained from the Education department, in 2023-24, the total admission to government schools was 1,15,426, in 2024-25, the admission to government schools was 1,08,243 and in 2025-26, the admission dropped to 1,05,994.
