Remove encroachments in tanks in 4 months: HC to Kumbakonam corpn

THE Madras HC has issued an ultimatum to government authorities, including the Kumbakonam Municipal Corporation, to remove the encroachments made in tanks (including temple tanks) in the town within four months, failing to which costs would be imposed on the civic body and the district administration (Thanjavur).
A division bench of Justices R Subramanian and Abdul Quddhose passed the order recently while closing a contempt of court petition filed by 'Elephant' G Rajendran seeking to punish the authorities concerned of the government for wilful disobedience of the court's 2018 order for removal of encroachments in the temple tanks (Potramaraikulam) and other tanks and canals in the temple town (Kumbakonam).
