Rooted in Tradition, Reaching for Tomorrow

It began as a dream—a Bishop's vision and a Maharaja's generosity laid the cornerstone for what would become one of Mysuru's most esteemed institutions of higher learning.

On October 9, 1946, St. Philomena's College was born, thanks to the firm commitment of His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Rene Feuga, the first Bishop of Mysore. In an extraordinary gesture, Bishop Feuga vacated his own mansion to house the fledgling college. His vision was met with the encouragement and support of the Wodeyar Royal Family, who were instrumental in fostering the Diocese's first foray into higher education.

The college was formally inaugurated by none other than His Highness Sri Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar, the Maharaja of Mysore—a rare and prestigious honour for any institution. It was a moment steeped in history, not only for its royal endorsement but also for what it represented: the establishment of the first private First Grade College in the Royal City of Mysuru, affiliated to the University of Mysore. More notably, it marked the founding of the first private Degree Science College in the erstwhile Mysore region.
