Excise Department operation to curb illegal liquor consumption

THE Excise Department has intensified enforcement and investigation efforts in Dakshina Kannada to prevent illegal liquor activities.
Authorities are focusing particularly on curbing the use of Goa liquor, out-of-state liquor, defence liquor, and duty-free foreign liquor.
Since July 2024, the department has recorded 31 major cases, confiscating a total of 876.78 litres of illegal liquor, including 115.35 litres of Goa liquor, 47.25 litres of defence liquor, 140.94 litres of illicit liquor, 56.57 litres of beer, 244.92 litres of wine, 115 litres of shandy, and 92 litres of bellam (fermented jaggery), along with 64.75 litres of illicit arrack. Additionally, four vehicles were seized, and assets worth Rs. 9,31,638 were confiscated.
