CELEBRATED as the first district in Kerala to complete a 100% social audit of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) projects in 2022, Wayanad is now facing its most serious credibility crisis.
The ₹2.5-crore fraud in the CPM-led Thondernad panchayat has prompted urgent calls for stricter monitoring and a proposal to mandate social audits at the grama panchayat level every six months.
