A REMAND report submitted by the Valayam police to the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court at Nadapuram recently has ignited a major political controversy, with opposition parties accusing the department of giving a communal color to a minor altercation.

The incident, which occurred on the night of September 5, stemmed from a dispute over a speeding motorcycle. The controversy surrounds the report's explicit mention of the religious affiliations of those involved. While the initial FIR made no reference to religion, the remand report stated the complainants were from the "Hindu community" and the accused were from the "Muslim community."
