KERALA Public Works Minister P A Muhamed Riyas inaugurated the long-awaited renovation of the Mananchira-Vellimadukunnu Road on Monday, declaring that the government will transform Kozhikode into 'New Calicut' through comprehensive road development.

Despite torrential rain, hundreds gathered in front of the Civil Station pavilion to witness the launch of the project, which marks the beginning of a broader City Road Improvement Project. The ambitious plan includes 12 road works with an administrative approval of ₹1,312.67 crore, of which ₹720.39 crore is earmarked for land acquisition and ₹592.28 crore for construction.

Speaking at the event, Minister Riyas emphasised the government's commitment to a long-term solution for traffic congestion in Kozhikode. "The state aims to unite everyone in development. History shows that people reject those who reject progress," he said.
