FACTIONAL rivalry in the Wayanad Congress unit is intensifying with tensions between District Congress Committee (DCC) president N D Appachan and Sulthan Bathery MLA I C Balakrishnan reaching new heights.
The rift came to fore in July when Appachan was allegedly assaulted by party workers during a meeting at Mullankolli. Soon after, rebel group member Thankachan was arrested in connection with the seizure of liquor and explosives from his home. Thankachan, who was released from jail after 17 days on Sunday and accorded a reception by Congress workers in Perikalloor, claimed political vendetta orchestrated by the Appachan faction behind his arrest.
