One killed, house destroyed in blast at Kannapuram; cops recover explosives

ONE person was killed after a powerful explosion ripped through a rented house in Keezhara, Kannapuram, early Saturday.
Police said the blast occurred around 1:50 a.m. in the house owned by retired headmaster Kappadan Govindan.
The deceased was identified as Muhammad Asham, 40, son of Mustafa of Chalad Ambalam Road. He is the brother-in-law of Anup Malik, a native of Chalad Pannenpara, who had rented the house.
The explosion completely destroyed the building and debris was found scattered across the neighborhood. The iron gate was hurled over 50 meters onto the road below, while nearby houses suffered heavy damage. Doors and windows were shattered, and in one house the ceiling collapsed.
