NITI Aayog Proposes Shift From Subsidy to Regulatory Action for EV Adoption

In order to fast-track India's electric mobility ambitions, NITI Aayog has proposed a shift from subsidies to regulatory mandates.
While earlier EV adoption efforts relied on financial incentives, NITI Aayog suggests the need to transition towards mandates and disincentives. These include clear policy targets for zero emission vehicle (ZEV) adoption, stricter corporate average fuel efficiency (CAFE) norms, and regulatory frameworks to phase out internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.
