In a significant setback for Uttarakhand, the Union Ministry of Forest and Environment has revoked its in-principle approval for the establishment of the state assembly, secretariat, and departmental headquarters in the Raipur area of Dehradun, which currently serves as the temporary capital.
Recently, the state government drafted a new proposal following the cancellation of a previous initiative from 2016. Official sources said that the state has already deposited over ₹24 crore with the Centre in anticipation of this project.
However, the Centre placed the project on hold, citing prolonged indecision and inadequate coordination among various government departments.
