MYSTERY surrounds the death of an 81-year-old man who was secretly buried by his sons, who claimed that their father, a swami, attained samadhi and was laid to rest in accordance with his last wish.

Police launched an investigation after local residents raised suspicion.

According to Gopan Swami's sons, he attained samadhi on January 9 and was laid to rest in a specially made chamber on the premises of their house in Kavuvila, Neyyattinkara, the same day. The incident came to light when the sons put up posters in the locality of the samadhi. A missing person case was registered on Friday.
