School students with meningitis symptoms stable

FIVE students, aged between five and seven, of the St Paul's International School in Kalamassery were admitted to various private hospitals in Kochi following symptoms of meningitis on Tuesday.
While the condition of the students remains stable, two of them are in intensive care.
Subsequently, District Medical Officer Dr Asha Devi ordered the school to be closed. "From the symptoms, we have concluded that it is meningitis. The condition of the five students is stable. The health department is investigating the source of the spread. We are treating them according to the symptoms shown. New cases have not been reported," Dr Asha told TNIE.
The health department has sent samples for further tests at the Institute of Virology, Alappuzha, and the results are expected on Wednesday evening.
