Pinarayi terms it strong affirmation of federal structure and democratic rights of legislature
POLITICAL leaders from Kerala hailed the Supreme Court's landmark ruling that governors cannot indefinitely sit on bills sent by legislative assemblies for assent and are bound to act on the aid and advice of the council of ministers.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan termed the verdict a strong affirmation of the federal structure and the democratic rights of the legislature. Hailing the verdict—pronounced by the SC in a case against TN Governor R N Ravi—as a victory for democracy, he said it serves as a warning against the tendency of governors to encroach upon the powers of legislative bodies.
