431 arrested in Assam in phase 3 of crackdown against child marriages

THE Assam police arrested 431 people for their alleged involvement child marriage cases. The arrests were made during a statewide crackdown on December 21-22. A total of 345 cases were registered.
The highest number of people (68) was arrested from lower Assam's Dhubri district. No arrests were made from Dima Hasao, Tamulpur, Biswanath, Jorhat districts, Hamren (West Karbi Anglong) and Guwahati.
"Assam continues its fight against child marriage. We will continue to take bold steps to end this social evil," said CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.
