13.5 Sovereigns' Gold Rod Missing From Padmanabhaswamy Temple

A GOLD rod weighing approximately 107 grams (13.5 sovereigns) has gone missing from the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram.
The disappearance came to light on Saturday morning when temple staff resumed renovation work on the sreekovil (sanctum sanctorum) door and found that the gold rod, which had been safely stored in the strongroom, was missing. The rod, alloyed with cadmium for soldering purposes, was one of several components temporarily removed from the door for restoration work that began on May 7.
