RG KAR RAPE-MURDER: Calcutta HC reserves verdict on pleas moved by Bengal govt & CBI

- Sulagna Sengupta @ Kolkata

WITH the West Bengal government and the CBI moving separate pleas in the Calcutta High Court seeking death for RG Kar hospital rape-murder convict Sanjay Roy, the victim's parents said on Monday that they are not demanding capital punishment for Roy for now as they want other accused to be punished.

They claimed that if Roy is awarded death sentence, other "accused will not get any punishment".

Speaking to reporters after the hearing on the admissibility of parallel petitions by the CBI and the state government, the victim's father said, "We want the names of all those behind my daughter's death to surface. We want the highest punishment for all of them and not just for Sanjay Roy. So we are not seeking capital punishment for Sanjay Roy now. The rest will be explained by our counsel."
