According to a CMO statement, Hyd AWS will play a crucial role in supporting growth of AWS cloud services, including AI, in the country

- EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE @Hyderabad

BUILDING on the momentum of investments announced at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has agreed to invest ₹60,000 crore in expanding its data centre infrastructure in Telangana.

Following a meeting with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and IT & Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, Michael Punke, vice-president of Global Public Policy of AWS, on Thursday announced plans for the investment to expand data centres in Hyderabad.

They discussed the Telangana government's support in creating a favourable environment for data centre development and the strategic importance of the state for AWS's operations in India. The Hyderabad AWS Region will play a crucial role in supporting the growth of AWS cloud services, including AI, in India, a release from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said.

AWS previously announced a $4.4 billion investment by 2030 to develop its cloud infrastructure in Telangana. Three operational data centres have already been established with an investment of around $1 billion.

AWS has requested additional land for its expansion plans, which the government has agreed to facilitate. Amazon is committed to supporting Telangana's digital ambitions through this expansion. Welcoming the investment, Revanth stated: "We are delighted with the growing confidence of global businesses like Amazon in making significant investments in our state. It is unprecedented. The efforts of the past year have truly borne fruit. This exemplifies the 'Telangana Rising' vision in action."

Hailing the decision, Sridhar Babu said: "With this deal, Hyderabad is poised to become the data centres hub of India and an undisputed leader in this domain."
