Stating that infrastructure development under the South Western Railway (SWR) has been progressing at a fast pace, SWR general manager Mukul Saran Mathur said, since January this year, 53 kilometers of rail lines has been commissioned and 94 route kilometers (RKM) of electrification has been added, raising the electrified route to 3,303 RKM, covering 89 per cent of the network.

Speaking after hoisting the National Flag during the Independence Day celebration, Mathur said the operational efficiency has been boosted with 89 per cent punctuality, speed upgrades to 130 kmph between Bengaluru-Jolarpettai, and Rs 1,015 crore invested in track renewals. Freight loading reached a record 29.55 million tonnes in this calendar year, generating Rs 3,056 crore, while total revenue touched Rs 5,468 crore, with strong growth in freight, passenger, and sundry earnings.
