Hero Stone frenzy: Viral photos & videos push up footfalls to Mallarayanakatte

HISTORIANS, researchers and people from Maharashtra and several parts of Karnataka are thronging Betageri Mallarayanakatte near Gadag where 16 Hero Stones (Veeragallu) were found. The photos and videos of the memorial stones have gone viral, fuelling the huge rush.

Some historians say that these Hero Stones are of 12-13 ft height and this is unique. Researchers are now demanding that the authorities check whether these are the tallest Hero Stones in India or in Karnataka. Mallarayanakatte has been attracting a lot of footfalls for the past one month but nobody knows the exact reason for the same. When asked by some researchers, many visitors said that they read about Mallarayanakatte on social media, hence they visited the site.
