THE world's oldest marathoner, the 114-year-old Fauja was cremated on Sunday at his native village Beas near Jalandhar with state honours.
THE world's oldest marathoner, the 114-year-old Fauja was cremated on Sunday at his native village Beas near Jalandhar with state honours. His son Harvinder Singh lit the funeral pyre while the gun salute was sounded in tribute.
The Punjab government announced renaming the village school after the age-defying athlete besides installing his statues at the stadium in the village and the sports college in Jalandhar. Punjab governor Gulab Chand Kataria, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and leaders from across parties attended his cremation, along with the entire village that gathered to pay homage to the Fauja. Prime Minister Modi, too, sent words of praise for the runner.
