The new Class 8 social science textbook by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), released on Wednesday, which portrays religious persecution and brutalities committed by the Mughal Empire during their reign over India, has stirred a hornet's nest. The book includes a disclaimer that no one from the past should be blamed.

Exploring Society: India and Beyond', released for use in the academic year 2025-2026 offers a multidisciplinary understanding of history, geography, economics and governance, said an official release from NCERT.
