WRD seeks rural development agency's assistance to dredge PAP lining canals

OWING to a fund crunch in the Water Resources Department (WRD), officials say they are in need of assistance from the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) to dredge canals of the Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP).

The farmers benefiting under PAP irrigation have been demanding that the 124-km-long main canal, branch canals and distribution canals, and water courses under the PAP be dredged, before water is opened for fourth zone irrigation. In this context, the WRD and the Planning Committee of PAP have requested the district administration to carry out these tasks through DRDA.
