Pondy univ stir over harassment charge against faculty turns violent, 18 arrested

AS many as 18 students of the Pondicherry Central University were arrested on Friday after a protest, organised by the Students' Federation of India (SFI), over the allegations of sexual harassment against a professor of the campus turned violent on Thursday night.

Demanding action against Madavaiah, Head of the Karaikal branch of Pondicherry University, who has been accused of sexually harassing a female MBA student, the protesters alleged that the university's Internal Complaints Committee had failed to take adequate action in this regard.
