AIADMK’s internal rift deepens, MR Vijayabhaskar & another former minister C Vijayabaskar may join TVK on July 1

- T MURUGANANDHAM

THE internal rift in the AIADMK deepened on Monday with senior leader MR Vijayabhaskar resigning as an MLA, reducing the party’s strength in the Assembly from 47 to 41.

More resignations could follow as discontent continues to simmer in the rival camp as several leaders who backed the TVK government in the confidence vote and have been given new party posts are yet to respond, indicating strong dissatisfaction.

Vijayabhaskar submitted his resignation to Speaker JCB Prabhakar, who accepted it after finding it in order. With MR Vijayabhaskar’s resignation, the total number of resignations from the 17th TN Assembly has risen to seven, including six AIADMK MLAs. Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay had earlier resigned from the Tiruchy East seat after winning from Perambur.
