One of the greatest batters of all time was under tremendous pressure coming into the Ranchi one-day international against South Africa. He desperately needed a century to silence his criticsand he did it with aplomb. And even at age 37, he looked physically and mentally fitter than most on the field.

It's well chronicled that Kohli and former India captain Rohit Sharma have shown keen interest in playing until the 2027 ICC World Cup in this format. However, what seems perplexing is the ambiguity in the team management's messages to the two stalwarts. This has led to intense speculation over their future, especially since Rohit's removal as the ODI skipper.
