Hassle-Free Highway Drive
IN a major relief to frequent national highway users, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced on Wednesday an annual FASTag pass scheme, which significantly reduces toll expenses for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans. The yearly pass priced at ₹3,000 is considered a step towards hassle-free highway travel and will come into effect from August 15.
The pass will be valid for one year from the date of activation or up to 200 trips--whichever is earlier. Under the scheme, a vehicle crossing a toll plaza will be counted as one trip, and a round trip (to and fro) will be lodged as two trips; thereby, a user, on average, will pay ₹15 per toll crossing.
