Dump Yard Near BPUT Campus To Be Shifted, Residents Relieved

Residents of Chhend Housing Colony and nearby localities can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided to shift the municipal solid waste dumping site from near the BPUT campus to a new location at Tarkera.
The existing dumping site has been running illegally for several decades, sending out an intolerable stench in the area and polluting the environment. The RMC's decision comes belatedly amid increasing pressure from the public.
Rourkela ADM and RMC commissioner Ashutosh Kulkarni on Thursday said on request of the administration, the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has provided a land parcel of three acres at Tarkera for shifting of the dump yard. The new location is easily accessed from NH-143 on the outskirts of the city and is away from human habitation.
