Pradhan slams Cong's 'empty sloganeering'

The BJP on Thursday countered the Congress' claim that it had compelled the Modi government to announce a caste census, alleging that Jawaharlal Nehru opposed caste-based reservation.

- Rajesh Kumar Thakur @ New Delhi

Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan attacked Congress' historical stance on caste enumeration by quoting from Nehru's 1951 letter to chief ministers expressing concerns that implementing reservations would result in a decline in quality.

Questioning the Congress for sitting for decades on the Kaka Kalelkar Commission's report, Pradhan said the Centre's decision on caste enumeration shows the contrast between the Modi government's "true intentions" and the Congress's "empty sloganeering".
