A meeting conducted by various organisations and activists in Belagavi has resolved to launch an agitation and submit a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) on February 3, opposing the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board's (KIADB) plan to divert 45 million litres of water per day from the Ghataprabha River at the Raja Lakhamagouda Reservoir in Hidkal to industrial units in Dharwad district.
The meeting held at Maruti Mandir in Maruti Galli, Belagavi on Thursday, saw the participation from Dalit organisations, farmers, and social organisations, Kannada groups, environmentalists, the Belagavi Bar Association, and members of the local industrial fraternity. The attendees unanimously decided to conduct a meeting on February 2 to strategise and plan the upcoming protest against the water diversion project.
