THE Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Centre, and others on a plea seeking a court-monitored independent investigation into the June 12 Air India crash in Ahmedabad, which killed 260 people, including 19 on the ground.

- SUCHITRA KALYAN MOHANTY

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh, while issuing a notice to Centre and others, sought a response on the petition filed by an aviation safety organisation, Safety Matters Foundation (SMF), which was headed by former Captain Amit Singh.

Advocate Prashant Bhushan, arguing for the petitioner, highlighted the issue of reports blaming the pilots for the crash. The court said it was logical for the petitioner to demand a fair and impartial probe.
