Pneumonia patient dies waiting for ICU bed at RML hospital

A 57-year-old Rajkishore Bhagat, suffering from pneumonia, died on Sunday evening inside RML Hospital waiting to get a vacant ICU bed for three days. His death can be attributed to the lack of ICU beds at the hospital, but his story highlights the apathy of health infrastructure failure.

The deceased son, Kanhaiya Lal, alleged that he took his father to two hospitals before RML but none of them took the patient in due to shortage of bed and lack of treatment.

The patient first reached Delhi government-run Indira Gandhi hospital where doctors suspected him of TB and referred him to a specialised centre since the hospital had no means to treatment, his son said.
