Need to develop green GDP: Modi

Tells Bill Gates when his new govt returns to power, he'll allocate money for cancer research

CAUGHT amid a rising campaign temperature for the parliamentary polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder Bill Cates that parameters used to measure progress are detrimental to climate and suggested developing the concept of a green gross domestic product.

The Prime Minister also said that when his new government returns to power, he will allocate money for research in cervical cancer to save the lives of young girls. "In the coming days, I want to talk about cervical cancer, especially for our daughters. I want to give a budget to our scientists in India. I want to tell them to do local research on this and make a vaccine," he said.
