The last rites of Jhapi Devi taking place on a road in Vaishali district | EXPRESS
(EXPRESS)
It all happened when a 91-year-old Mahadalit woman was cremated in the middle of a road under Goraul police station limits in Vaishali district, around 40 km from the state capital. Sources said that the relatives were forced to perform the last rites of the woman in the middle of the road as some people had encroached on the land leading to the cremation ground. Encroachers allegedly prevented the family from proceeding with the funeral.
The incident occurred on Thursday at Sondho Andhari Gachhi Chowk, 30 km from district headquarters Hajipur. The deceased has been identified as Jhapi Devi, a resident of Sondho Vasudev village.
