IN a major boost to the country's military diplomacy across the continent, India has decided to increase the number of defence attaches - military officers attached to diplomatic missions abroad. In the first step, 10 defence attaches from three services will be joining their new assignments.

The sources said the Army will get four DAs to be based in Ethiopia, Algeria and Mozambique in Africa. The fourth one will be going to Poland.
Three attaches will belong to the Navy and one of them will be assigned to Djibouti (Africa).
The other two DAs will go to an African nation and another to South Asia. Sources have confirmed that discussions are on to create more positions of DAS.
