EC initiates talks with states for nationwide SIR rollout

THE Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday began a two-day meeting with Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) from all the states and the Union Territories (UTs) to review preparations for the nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Following the discussions for two days, the Commission is expected to decide on launching the nationwide voter roll revision exercise, officials said.

They said that the meeting was presided over by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in the presence of Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. The Commission assessed the preparedness of offices of the CEOs of all the States and the UTs for rolling out the nationwide SIR exercise, they added.
