Cash-strapped AAP govt in Punjab seeks loan of ₹8.5K cr for Q2 FY26

THE financially distressed AAP-led Punjab government will secure a loan of ₹8,500 crore from the market during the second quarter of the current fiscal year (July to September), bringing the total borrowings to ₹14,741.92 crore.
In April-May, the state had raised ₹6,241.92 crore as loans and is mulling to borrow ₹34,201.11 crore this year. Thus, by the end of March 2026, the total debt of the state is likely to touch ₹4 lakh crore.
