4 Nepal residents buried alive in U’khand landslip

|August 24, 2024
HEAVY rains in Uttarakhand hills triggered a landslide in Phata, Rudraprayag late Thursday, killing four Nepali citizens.
The victims were buried under the debris caused by the landslip. Speaking to this newspaper, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) commandant Manikant Mishra said a team led by inspector Karn Singh was sent to the scene late at night, following an alert from the district control room.
The SDRF team had to trek more than 2km as a crucial passage was blocked by boulders. They swiftly initiated a rescue operation, said SDRF sources. Inspector Kavindra Sajwan of the SDRF said upon reaching the scene, the rescue team found that the heavy rainfall made it impossible for a JCB machine to reach the spot. The SDRF personnel then manually dug through the debris.
