3-phase assembly elections in J&K to begin on Sept 18

THE Election Commission on Friday announced assembly polls for Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and Haryana.
In J&K, the polls will be held in three phases - on September 18, September 25 and October 1. Voting in Haryana will scheduled for October 1, coinciding with the third phase of J&K polls. The counting of votes in J&K as well as Haryana will take place on June 4.
With the announcement of election dates for Jammu and Kashmir, the EC has set the stage for the people of the Union Territory to elect a government of their own, after the Centre did away with the erstwhile state's special status under Article 370 of the Constitution, in 2019.
