3 tribal youth, 1 non-tribal woman help forest dept, rlys to save wild elephants

AS a child, S Santhosh was enthralled by the wild elephants that would frequent the grove near his tribal settlement at Iyyanpathi in Coimbatore.

For the past week, the 25-year-old BBA graduate has not only been able to observe these animals, but also save their lives.

Santhosh is among the four youngsters, three men from the Irular community and one woman, hired to operate the control room monitoring AIbased cameras installed alongside railway tracks in the Madukkarai forest range and prevent wild elephants from being hit by trains at Pudupathy.
