Making Star Wars should be child's play-it's a shame adults sullied this
The London Standard
|May 21, 2026
Sometimes it’s hard to remember that Star Wars is for children, created by George Lucas to be knockabout Saturday matinee fun.
Half the problem for the Star Wars universe is it’s policed by kidult fans who act like jihadis enforcing the Koran. The other half is that the films are, beyond the original three, awful. Under the stewardship of Disney, the last sequel trilogy of films were so bad they actually made the Lucas prequels look half-decent, Jar Jar Binks and all. JJ Abrams, the steward of the new ones, seemed so intimidated by fan expectations that he simply remade the original films, only way, way worse. No Star Wars film has been released since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.
