From cucumbers to katsu, what your area's top Deliveroo orders say about you
The London Standard
|November 14, 2024
When predicting the Deliveroo orders of each London borough, you'd be forgiven for falling back on stereotypes. Hackney with its boujie Torres crisps and small plates (though these don't exactly travel well), Chelsea with its Waitrose crowd and Lambeth with its various Canary Wharf finance bro lunch options.
But Deliveroo is a window into our souls. It cuts through stereotypes or misapprehensions. Your Deliveroo order history is as revealing as your Google searches. There's no room for pretension here, only your deepest, dankest cravings.
And, apparently, an overwhelming desire for cucumber, which cropped up as the most ordered grocery item across three different boroughs (Hammersmith and Fulham, Lewisham, Westminster). How this elongated fruit overtook onions, the base of literally every meal, we may never know.
Other surprises come in the form of subverted stereotypes. Thought Kensington and Chelsea would be all sushi, Whole Foods and Ole & Steen? You'd be wrong. The royal borough's Deliveroo order is actually the most representative of the entire London population, given that it's the city's most popular order in general.

Only you know whether pizza is worth queuing five hours for, whether it is worth sleepless nights sitting in the torpid blue light of a smartphone screen searching in vain for a reservation that will never materialise. This is how it is with the Marlborough.
