ALYANAABI finally regained the winning thread at Haydock on his seasonal bow and merits the utmost respect as he returns to Merseyside for the Betfred John Of Gaunt Stakes.

Owen Burrows’ charge looked a top-class prospect as a juvenile, winning the Tattersalls Stakes before chasing home City Of Troy in the Dewhurst.

He built on that good impression when a fair fifth on his seasonal bow in last year’s 2000 Guineas, but Alyanaabi’s upward trajectory somewhat stalled after that Newmarket run, again being found out at the highest level when fifth in the St James’s Palace Stakes, while two subsequent runs in lesser company were disappointing.
