Warning over counterfeit dolls
The Journal
|August 05, 2025
A warning has been issued over fake Labubu dolls sold in the North East after thousands were found to have to breached safety regulations.
-
In the last three weeks alone, over 2,000 counterfeit Labubu dolls have been seized from 13 retailers in North Tyneside.
A large quantity of suspected counterfeit Labubu dolls have also been seized from stores in eastern Northumberland.
The counterfeit toys were found to breach both the Toy (Safety) Regulations 2011 and the Trade Marks Act 1994, raising concerns about child safety.
It has prompted North Tyneside and Northumberland Trading Standards to alert parents and businesses about serious safety risks linked to counterfeit Labubu dolls.
The imitation dolls, which mimic the popular soft plush Labubu collectables, contain small parts that easily detach, posing a serious choking hazard to young children and failing to meet essential toy safety legislation.
