NEWCASTLE United head coach Eddie Howe is pondering handing a St James’ Park debut to exciting youngster Seung-soo Park this weekend.

- By LEE RYDER Chief Newcastle writer

The 18-year-old left-winger has taken Newcastle backroom staff by surprise a little in terms of how ready he is for the physical challenge.

Indeed, Park's willingness to get involved in the more defensive side of things has been noted by Howe while his array of skills illuminated the big stages of Suwon and Seoul in the Far East.

But now he is must prove he can do it on a regular basis as Howe and his coaches look to take a closer look at the youngster.

The initial plan was for Park to join Newcastle's second string for the first half of the season before a possible loan.

That could yet be an option, but Howe has requested more time to study the teenager and what he can bring to the squad.
