Scientists using T-Rex DNA to create leather grown in laboratories

SCIENTISTS in Newcastle are creating leather from T-Rex DNA - but it won't come cheap.

Researchers at scientific company BSF Enterprise, which owns a collection of tissue engineering firms, say they have made substantial strides towards creating the dinosaur leather which it plans to grow in its Newcastle labs. The "world first" material is derived from synthetic T-Rex DNA.

The business which span out from research at Newcastle University says it has already had discussions with several potential fashion industry customers, which could turn the material into T-Rex products to hit high street shelves.

Through its Lab-Grown Leather Ltd company, BSF, which highlights the cruelty free and eco-friendly nature of its lab-grown leather products, has partnered with marketing company VML, part of the advertising giant WPP and genome engineering specialist The Organoid Company to make the T-Rex leather a reality.
