Rescuers deal with incidents as weather worsens

THE Northumberland Mountain Rescue Team has dealt with several incidents in heavy snow, including an overturned van.

On Monday, January 5, a very busy morning saw back-to-back situations arise for the team, made more difficult by the inclement weather.

The first call, answered by both the Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team and the North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team, came in at around 8.30am, when the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) informed them of "a casualty with a suspected lower leg injury in a quarry" in the Elsdon area.

The Northumberland Mountain Rescue Team posted on social media: "Due to poor road conditions, team vehicles were deployed while others remained on standby. Access for emergency services was confirmed and, within 30 minutes, a community paramedic was on scene and able to manage the incident.
