Plan for factory in East End of city put forward

PLANS for a major new factory in the East End of Newcastle have emerged.

Engineering group British Engines has lodged proposals to develop a derelict plot on the Parsons Works site in Byker.

The firm, owner of eight North East-based businesses employing 1,200 people worldwide, wants to build what is described as a “high quality manufacturing facility” on the Shields Road site, which was previously part of the neighbouring Siemens Energy plant but has lain vacant since around 2009.

Documents sent to Newcastle City Council confirm British Engines’ desire to open a new factory on the disused land, which would be made up of three manufacturing facilities and an office block.
