North East museums to share £1.25m funding

The Winter Gardens in Sunderland City Centre

Five organisations which run the museums will have a share of the cash. Government minister Baroness Twycross said the hope was that the funding would help venues stay open and provide opportunities for future generations.

The organisations to receive money are Sunderland City Council (£102,280), The Bowes Museum (£436,181), Jarrow Hall (£38,669), Middlesbrough Council's cultural services department (£239,551) and North East Museums formerly Tyne and Wear Archives & Museums (£438,300).
